There are few things I love more than falling in love with a soundtrack, only to discover the game it's tied to has, like, three reviews on Steam. You guessed it: that's what happened this very morning as I was vibing to Scrumbly's impeccable beats for Moorage, a retro-pilled fishing roguelike.
I'm not familiar with the artist, but what becomes obvious when browsing his discography is his knack for the late-'90s and early-'00s video game eras—and the retro VGM that accompanies them. At its core, Moorage's soundtrack reminded me of tunes Alpha Chrome Yayo composed for Promise Mascot Agency, or even Mark Sparling's irresistible OST for A Short Hike. It's also an extension of sorts of The One Fish soundtrack I covered not too long ago. The bottom line? Chill, carefree retro video game tunes.
Moorage's OST is now streaming on all major platforms and available to purchase on Bandcamp. That's especially convenient since today is Bandcamp Friday, a special event where the storefront waives its fees on all sales, meaning artists keep the lion's share.
