In my circles, Gordy Haab is often described as "the best John Williams imitator"—a label that is as flattering as it is reductive toward the composer's own distinct touch. Yes, it is impossible not to hear echoes or recognize classic motifs from the Star Wars movies. But Haab is much more than a copycat, and his new score for Star Wars: Zero Company is another compelling case in point. Building on the main theme unveiled a month ago, this new OST shines with thrilling orchestrations and ominous synths.
With the game now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the original soundtrack makes its debut across all streaming platforms, courtesy of Lucasfilm. Set during the Clone Wars, this tactical, turn-based action game reminiscent of the XCOM franchise has been warmly received by critics. Sitting comfortably at an 89 on OpenCritic, the game will undoubtedly please both franchise fans and strategy veterans looking for a fresh challenge to sink their teeth into.
This marks Haab's ninth score for a Star Wars video game. The Grammy and Ivor Novello Award-winning composer previously co-wrote music for Star Wars Battlefront & Battlefront II, the Star Wars Jedi series alongside Stephen Barton, and, more recently, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Scheduled for release on October 6, Star Wars: Galactic Racer has yet to reveal its composer.
