VHOLUME is one of those games that had me sold the moment the team revealed who was handling the score. Intriguing on its own merits thanks to a killer high-concept pitch—you parkour your way out of a dystopian brutalist megacity—the latest project from the team behind STRAFTAT features composer Tom Schley (The Stanley Parable), also known as 1000 Eyes, who famously co-crafted the unforgettable soundtrack to Signalis. Berlin-based composer Konstantin Schimanowski also lends his touch to several tracks on this remarkable ambient project.

I love how the music draws a stark contrast between the high-velocity movement of your character and the utter desolation of the urban expanse you're attempting to escape. Given the studio's previous portfolio, the low-poly aesthetic, and the kinetic gameplay, you might expect a relentless, high-BPM jungle score. Instead, VHOLUME's rarely breaks two digits, delivering a soundscape that occasionally feels like a new-age ambient manifesto. I'm talking heavy drones, delicate textures, uncanny sound design, and liminal soundscapes. Yet despite those eerie elements, the music never feels suffocating or oppressive. It's fantastic work, and a record I know I'll keep on repeat for long writing and reading sessions—it's prime lock-in music.
