Roughly a year after making waves with the long-awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong and its masterclass of an OST, Australian composer Christopher Larkin is back for a project where few expected him: Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which launched its 1.0 version this Wednesday, September 2nd. To celebrate the game's official release, developer Digital Sun has dropped the ambitious roguelike's soundtrack across all major streaming platforms, alongside digital storefronts like Steam and Bandcamp.
Spanning 31 tracks over roughly an hour and twenty minutes of music, the Moonlighter 2 soundtrack showcases Larkin's trademark sharp melodic sensibility. While the overall vibe is much brighter and lighter than the delightfully depressing tracks of Hollow Knight and its sequel, the composer delivers a performance that fully lives up to his reputation. I especially love how Larkin experiments with different styles, introducing unfamiliar sonic textures—like the ominous bass on "Kalina Day Realm," or even better, the heavily distorted electric guitar on the following track, "The Herald."
