Tracking new VGM releases since 2022

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope OST brings nearly three hours of dark ambient soundscapes to streaming

Ambient music and grating sound design collide in the sprawling new DLC soundtrack.

It’s been a long, winding road since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was first announced back in 2010. Standing stronger than ever, developer GSC Game World has just launched an ambitious DLC for its survival FPS, releasing its accompanying soundtrack across all major streaming platforms in the process. This impressive 34-track release delivers nearly two hours and 40 minutes of music, stacking on top of the base game's whopping 50-track, seven-and-a-half-hour soundtrack—which you can check out via the link above.

Crafted once again by the same quartet of Ukrainian composers, the Cost of Hope soundtrack builds directly on the foundations of the main game’s score. This is ambient music that repeatedly blurs the line between sound design and musique concrète—less a collection of catchy melodies and more an oppressive sonic landscape designed to instill a harsh, unforgiving atmosphere. In short: the music is the Zone itself.

It’s certainly not the most cheerful album you’ll stream today, but it stands as a brilliant exercise in artistic cohesion for GSC Game World.
