Interface-based games are a niche subgenre, but one with a dedicated following. Since launching on PC on July 17, it has already amassed nearly 1,500 positive reviews on Steam.
Desktop Explorer offers the simple (and subtly creepy) pleasure of snooping through your uncle's computer files and browser history. While the mere mention of Windows 98 might give some readers nightmares, the real horror lies deeper: as you sift through notes and decipher his most secret files, an unsettling family drama unfolds before eyes weary from the flicker of the CRT display.
All of this is elevated by Jorge Noel Flores's debut OST, which delivers lo-fi in its truest sense: crackling static, slow-moving synths, and barely tuned acoustic guitars. The composer evokes a rich tapestry of analog horror and liminal imagery—making him a talent to keep a close eye on.
