What does the best game of 2026 actually sound like?

It's finally release day for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. To celebrate the launch of this remake—officially the highest-rated video game of all time—Nintendo Music has added seven tracks from its reimagined soundtrack, including "Kokiri Forest," "Hyrule Field," and "Gerudo Valley." The main theme was previously released as part of the series' 40th anniversary. Give it a listen on Nintendo Music (active Switch Online subscription required).

Just like Star Fox earlier this year, the remake of the classic N64 title receives a lush orchestral makeover that adds depth and texture to familiar tunes we know by heart. At times, it almost feels too elaborate—as though these melodies were never intended to sound quite so grand. Then again, that might just be the nostalgia talking.

Unfortunately, Nintendo has revealed few details about the team behind the brand-new score. All we know is that Masato Ohashi, who joined Nintendo EPD Production Group 3 in 2019, served as the project's music lead. Ohashi previously worked on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and most notably composed the Goron City theme, the Zora's Domain theme, and Ganondorf's boss battle music in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Suffice it to say, the composer has earned his stripes, even if it all traces back to Koji Kondo's timeless compositions.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches today as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, immediately taking the crown as 2026's highest-rated release. That is, until the highly anticipated arrival of GTA VI in just two weeks?
