The first single from Fable gets everything right

Titled "Bowerstone", the track channels all the mischievous, playful charm the franchise is famous for.

Today, Playground Games revealed the first single from the upcoming, highly anticipated Fable, seizing the opportunity to finally announce who is handling the score: Jacob Shea. Take a listen to "Bowerstone" below. The track isn't available on streaming platforms just yet, but I'll update this article as soon as it drops.

While we already caught a few musical cues in previous gameplay trailers, this marks our first dedicated taste of the score for Fable's first mainline installment since 2010. I don't know about you, but hearing this first piece feels like coming home. It captures every ounce of the franchise's trademark cheekiness. Whimsical and lively, "Bowerstone" sets the stage masterfully and leaves me eager for more.

Fable isn't Jacob Shea's first foray into video game scoring. In fact, the LA-based, BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated composer started his career with Gears of War: Judgment in 2013 (with Steve Jablonsky), before he made a name for himself over the last decade scoring high-profile docuseries like Planet Earth II, Blue Planet II, Seven Worlds, One Planet, and Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman.

As of this writing, only the two Fable Legends soundtracks are available to stream. Microsoft would do well to fix this in the coming months; it would serve as an ideal appetizer to build hype before Fable launches on February 23, 2027. The original game was scored by Danny Elfman and Russell Shaw, with subsequent entries handled solely by Shaw.

In other RPG news, Blizzard recently released the soundtrack to World of Warcraft: Forever, its upcoming reimagining of the landmark MMORPG ahead of its November 4 launch.
