While the main appeal of Dead as Disco is being able to import your own tracks to let off steam, the rhythm fighter, which launched in Early Access last week, obviously features a streaming-friendly soundtrack made of tracks produced specifically for the game. As indicated by the Vol.1 tag, more tracks will be added to the game's jukebox in the coming months.
These first 23 tracks include remixes of famous hits (starting with a synthwave arrangement of Maniac) and original productions commissioned from artists across all geographical and musical backgrounds. Note that this is not the same album as the one released on Steam when the game launched, but rather the tracks available on the in-game radio. It features pop, metal, hip-hop artists, and more.
As for why two different albums are available for the game, the studio explained on Steam: "It’s a long story, but the simple answer is, Licensed Music rights are pretty complicated. Our goal is to support artists who partner with us, so we can bring you all some more amazing collaborations in the future. As a result we need to distribute any licensed music through traditional music retail channels and pricing structures."
Already riding a massive wave of success, the game from Brain Jar Games sold 100K copies in just 48 hours and already boasts over 3,300 positive reviews on Steam. A future staple for rhythm games.
