It's release day for the debut game from Paris-based studio Lifeline. Deer & Boy, which can be seen as a marriage of Blanc and Planet of Lana, is a cinematic platformer where a boy and a fawn must work together to progress through environments that alternate between bucolic and imbued with fantasy.
The music is composed by French artist Corentin Brasart, whose work I absolutely adore. After catching people's attention with Night Call, he impressed me with his sophisticated electronic influences on Flat Eye, and even more so with his tortured tracks in the unforgettable Decarnation.
Corentin embraces the dual nature of Deer & Boy's environments, delivering a long album (53 tracks) that oscillates between cheerful, gently naive orchestral pieces and ominous electronic soundscapes that urge the protagonists to be cautious. Since this adventure game has no dialogue, the music is absolutely vital!
