Infuse Studio really went the extra mile with the sequel to Spirit of the North. The game, which was released earlier this month, boasts an impressive original soundtrack by Pav Gekko. With 93 tracks, the score clocks in at over 4.5 hours of music. That's no small feat for an indie game!
While you could buy the whole thing on Steam already, the soundtrack has now arrived on all streaming platforms, courtesy of Laced Records, which is also releasing the OST on its Bandcamp. Be sure to add it to your wishlist for the next Bandcamp Friday!
The music composed by Pav Gekko is mainly orchestral, soundtracking the beautiful adventure your little fox goes through in the game. While no single track particularly stood out to me, I must say the score is highly coherent, and will make for an emotional backdrop for my next evening reading sessions.
The Spirit of the North 2 soundtrack is an ethereal, emotionally charged score inspired by Icelandic minimalism, with elements of contemporary Nordic folk and the introspective tone of Scandi noir dramas. Blending ambient textures with fragile, close-miked instruments—ebowed guitars, prepared pianos, bowed resonator guitars, detuned ukuleles, and shimmering glockenspiels—the music evokes the stark beauty of mountain vistas, misty fjords, glacial valleys, and the glow of the northern lights.
Vocalist Alexandra Kowalska brings an otherworldly dimension through her haunting kulning recordings, a traditional Scandinavian herding call, deepening the sense of mystery and connection to the northern landscapes.
At its heart lies a fragile, introspective main theme—crafted to express wonder, hope, and melancholy. The score embraces restraint and stillness, offering listeners space for reflection.
Whether you are revisiting the world of Spirit of the North 2 or discovering its music on its own, this soundtrack provides a meditative journey through soundscapes of beauty, loss, and quiet transcendence.
