You might have missed it if you blinked: Planet of Lana has a sequel, which landed on all platforms earlier this year. Still visually stunning, Planet of Lana II was unfortunately overshadowed at launch by a wave of heavy hitters (Marathon, Slay the Spire 2, Pokopia…). That being said, the follow-up was warmly received by critics and players alike, holding a metascore above 80. Five months later, we can finally listen to the marvelous score Takeshi Furukawa composed for the game.
The Japanese composer, praised for his unforgettable soundtrack to The Last Guardian (which is back on vinyl, by the way), once again proves he is a master of gut-wrenching orchestral music. Running at roughly an hour long, the Planet of Lana II OST introduces some truly ominous textures, such as the chilling choir work on "Gratto Crystal". Despite bringing back both Lana and her companion Mui, this soundtrack remains strictly instrumental, as vocalist Siobhan Wilson did not return for this installment.
Set roughly two years after the original title, Planet of Lana II maintains its cinematic platforming roots while introducing richer level design and a more expansive cast of characters.
