Only one week left to wait before discovering Housemarque's new game. As the launch trailer for Saros has just been released, and reviews are expected later today [edit: reviews are in—it's a banger], composer Sam Slater has shared "Shepherd" on social media, the second track from the game's soundtrack.
It is a much more aggressive track than the first single, "Sun is Forever," adding ultra-distorted guitar and a heavy, percussive beat to the electronic elements. Although I'm a huge fan of Bobby Krlic's work on the Returnal OST, I have to admit that there is a level of brutality here that was perhaps missing from Housemarque's previous title. This makes sense, as Saros is meant to be even more fast-paced than its predecessor.
Saros will be released exclusively on PS5 on April 30th. Deluxe Edition buyers will be able to play it in early access starting April 27th. According to rumors, Sony no longer intends to port its exclusive games to PC.
Published by Milan Records, the Saros soundtrack should hit streaming platforms on the game's release day. Given the track record of Sony and the American label, there is little doubt that a vinyl release will also be on the cards. Milan has just launched pre-orders for the Ghost of Yōtei 2LP, which won the BAFTA Game Award for Best Music last week.
