Now set for release on September 24th, the sequel to CONTROL has been revealed over the last few days through several new trailers. In yesterday's trailer, introduced during the Summer Game Fest opening, it probably wasn't the graphics or the art direction that caught players' attention the most, but rather the music accompanying the footage.
This first track from the CONTROL Resonant soundtrack is called Manalan Mailla, and it is performed by "ethno-pop" singer Vilma Jää, as she describes herself on her Instagram page. The track features deeply mesmerizing vocals that evoke Nordic and Slavic folklore, driven by punchy percussion that proves Remedy hasn't lost its touch after the irresistible musical direction of its previous title, Alan Wake 2. "Manalan mailla is based on Ingrian ensemble runolaulu tradition. My favourite way to build vocal harmonies," writes the artist on her post.
On streaming platforms, the track features an artwork reading "Zoe's Mixtape," suggesting that the studio will once again collaborate with artists from all backgrounds to flesh out Petri Alanko's score with pop hits. This highly effective approach contributed greatly to the atmosphere of Alan Wake 2, notably with its famous "Chapter Songs."
CONTROL Resonant will come out on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on September 24th. The first installment of the series is currently on sale at just under 4 bucks.
