Who could have imagined a game released 11 years ago would still generate this much buzz? A month ahead of The Witcher 3: Remastered hitting all platforms, and as a teaser before the launch of Songs of the Past—the cult RPG's surprise third DLC—CD Projekt dropped a five-track EP on August 29 featuring music from next year's expansion. For now, these tracks are exclusively available on YouTube.
While the studio has yet to credit any composers in the video description, it was revealed at Gamescom that Marcin Przybyłowicz will be joined by Magda Urbańska for this new installment. A senior composer at CD PROJEKT (Gwent, Cyberpunk 2077), Urbańska is also a violinist whose work can notably be heard on the Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales soundtrack. You can learn more about her in a Q&A session streamed earlier this afternoon on the studio's Twitch channel (starting at the 6:30 mark). While there is still no official confirmation regarding the involvement of Mikołaj Stroiński and Piotr Musiał (who notably contributed to the first two DLCs), it has been confirmed by Magda Urbańska that Percival Schuttenbach will indeed be part of the journey—which feels only natural given the impact of their music on The Witcher 3's sonic identity.
One thing is certain: The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past isn't reinventing the wheel, delivering exactly what fans expect from the franchise's soundscape. Expect galloping Slavic folk tunes, gut-wrenching vocal choruses, and dizzying string arrangements.
In a few days, fans of the genre will also get to check out The Blood of Dawnwalker, the debut title from Rebel Wolves—a studio founded by CD PROJEKT veterans—which many already consider a spiritual successor to The Witcher 3. At the very least, its soundtrack is already holding its own.
