The music of Big Walk is just one of its many selling points

Studio aksfx channels all the game quirkiness in an OST reminiscent of Humanity's.

It might just be this summer’s sleeper hit: the new title from House House, the creators of Untitled Goose Game, is already making serious waves. Broadly speaking, Big Walk is a "friendslop" hiking simulator where up to 12 players can join forces to wander around, marvel at the scenery, and solve cryptic puzzles. It’s a game that defies easy categorization—a feeling only amplified by an evocative soundtrack that refuses to make things simple for us.

Spread across nine (yes, nine!) separate EPs, all available on Bandcamp and major streaming services, the score by Australian duo aksfx acts like a guide, holding our hand without ever revealing the destination. It feels a bit like walking blindly with your hands over your eyes before finally uncovering a landscape as unexpected as it is gorgeous.

Playful, buoyant, and intoxicating, the music of Big Walk has virtually nothing in common with Dan Golding’s work on Untitled Goose Game. Debussy has no place in this quirky universe, yet all the playfulness of the developer shines through aksfx’s compositions. Those in the know might catch a similar kinetic energy echoing the soundtrack of Humanity, Enhance’s surprising Lemmings-like game for PlayStation VR.

Big Walk is out now on PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Sitting at an impressive 87 on OpenCritic, House House’s latest venture is already establishing itself as one of the standout indie hits of the year.
