Slay the Spire composer Clark Aboud takes you on an emotional road trip with the first tracks from Forever Ago

A bittersweet acoustic prelude to Forever Ago courtesy of composer Clark Aboud.

Most of you probably know Clark Aboud for his hypnotic loops across both Slay the Spire and its recently released sequel. I, a scholar, know him for the quieter but equally wonderful Kind Words—a game where you exchange heartfelt letters with strangers online. I know that premise might sound like a terrible idea in the year 2026, but Kind Words (and its sequel) boasts a warm, disarming charm that makes it far safer and cozier than you might expect.

Anyway, all this yapping is to say that Clark Aboud popped up in my feed this morning with two brand-new singles from the upcoming Annapurna-published Forever Ago. Let's take a look at the pitch: “Following a tragic stroke of fate, Alfred embarks on a journey north in search of redemption in this single-player road trip adventure.” Oh boy.

You might want to keep a box of tissues close at hand. It will come in handy as Aboud's delicate acoustic picking on “Leave Home Behind” and the bittersweet string arrangements on “Forever Yours” start working on your tear ducts—both tracks are now streaming on all major platforms.

Forever Ago is slated to launch on October 8 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and dive into the soundtracks for Kind Words and Kind Words 2. You can thank me later.
