Olivier Deriviere cooked again. Asobo's go-to composer is naturally back to score this spin-off, which follows the adventures of Sophia—whom we met in A Plague Tale: Requiem—as she retraces her past on the Minotaur' island. Just over two months ahead of the game's release (coming August 27 to PC and current-gen consoles), Deriviere has shared a first track for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, "The Land," which sets the tone perfectly.
It's a catchy, driving piece, carried by Vasiliki Anastasiou’s vocals and the Amalgamation Project choir. Even though he isn't featured on this specific track, the talented cellist Eric-Maria Couturier will definitely be back for this new installment—having already done so much to shape the series' musical identity.
In a statement shared exclusively with NME earlier this week, the composer says: "Resonance, although part of A Plague Tale universe, is a very different game and therefore needed a fresh musical approach without leaving the core emotions and musical traits of the franchise."
"The Land" is also available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal and Qobuz.
As usual, Olivier Deriviere is giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the production of his soundtrack. A first teaser has been shared on social media, with more making-of videos expected to follow.
I'll take advantage of this news to point you toward the (three!) excellent albums Deriviere composed for South of Midnight, the latest game from Compulsion Games—which, as we learned this week, is abruptly shutting down under the blows of an XBOX in the midst of a full-blown identity crisis.
