Tracking new VGM releases since 2022

Fat Bard goes all drummy and bassy on the Chivalware OST

Is there anything these guys can't do?

I can't overstate how much I love Fat Bard. I was first introduced to the Missouri-based duo in 2019 through their unforgettable score for Jet Lancer, and I've been hooked ever since. The sheer volume of their output is hard to fathom: this year alone, Fat Bard has been credited on four soundtracks—two of which rank among my favorites so far (Bubsy 4D and Demon Tides). Well, their fifth score of 2026 has more than enough punch to join the ranks. In Chivalware, which drops later today on PC, Fat Bard tries their hand at something new: drum and bass. You can listen to the soundtrack right now on your streaming platform of choice.

To be fair, this isn't strictly the first time Fat Bard has ventured into DnB territory. You can find the occasional breakbeat banger across several of their past releases, but tackling a full-fledged drum and bass OST is a fresh milestone. And what's more challenging than going all-in on such an over-saturated genre? That's no trouble for Patrick and Zach—two ridiculously talented musicians who know their shit inside and out.

So, how does it sound? Bias aside, hearing one of my favorite VGM acts tackle one of my favorite genres is an absolute thrill. It's superb: packed with groove, delightfully playful, and striking the exact retro vibe needed to power this fast-paced tile-matching roguelike.

Willing to add even more DnB to your daily rotation? Don't sleep on the Boost Vector Ex soundtrack. Really good stuff.
