As REKA hits 1.0, its majestic soundtrack finally drops on streaming

How do you score a game about building a walking chicken-legged cottage?

After spending two years in Early Access, the witchy survival-crafting game from German studio Emberstorm Entertainment has finally come into its own. Version 1.0 hit Steam earlier this week, and the gorgeous orchestral soundtrack by Sebastian Grunewald is now available in all its glory on your favorite streaming platform, courtesy of Kid Katana Records.

Spanning 36 tracks across roughly an hour and 15 minutes of music, REKA's score sounds marvelous. Channeling the Slavic folklore required to set the perfect tone for a tale of witches, Baba Yaga, and chicken-legged cottages, Grunewald's soundtrack unfolds like a fairy-tale book—albeit a slightly spooky one. The composer makes the string section dance an unholy waltz, all without straying into outright horror territory.

If REKA sounds so damn good, it is because Sebastian Grunewald pulled out all the stops, recording his soundtrack with the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg—a full-fledged symphonic orchestra that specializes in scoring for interactive media. You can get a sneak peek at one of the recording sessions on the composer's Instagram page.

Craving more Slavic-infused soundtracks? Why not give The Blood of Dawnwalker's score a spin? While you are at it, add the five teaser tracks from the upcoming third expansion to The Witcher 3 that dropped last month to your rotation.
