I definitely didn't see that one coming. I've been keeping a close eye on the release of the soundtrack for the hit RPG Crimson Desert on streaming platforms, but Pearl Abyss took a rather unexpected turn.
This Friday, April 24, the Korean studio released the first volume of the game's OST exclusively on Steam… for free. You read that right. You can add the Crimson Desert soundtrack to your Steam library and download it at your convenience without spending a dime.
The studio announced that this first volume (which features a whopping 75 tracks) will be coming to streaming platforms soon. The album was also posted on the Pearl Abyss YouTube channel.
This first installment of the OST—composed by Hwiman Ryu, Inro Joo, Hyoung Woo Roh, Jiyoon Kim, and Dongjune Oh—comes with plenty of behind-the-scenes details about the game's music, as well as an exhaustive list of every musician involved in the project.
"This album is the fruit of creative toil and perseverance. Through its rich sound, we have brought to life Pywel’s vast horizons and its most poignant moments. To the players wandering the wilds and crossing paths with destiny, may this music be your steadfast companion."
Since its release on March 19, the action-RPG Crimson Desert has already sold over 5 million copies across PC and consoles. While it initially received a somewhat mixed reception from players overwhelmed by the scale of the open world and the complexity of its multilayered gameplay, Crimson Desert has since benefited from a wide array of patches and fixes from Pearl Abyss.
