Sucker Punch's latest samurai action-RPG just received a narrative expansion titled Echoes of Sekigahara which, you guessed it, arrives with a wealth of new music. In fact, this companion release (quaintly titled More Music from Ghost of Yōtei) packs 23 new tracks, making it even longer than the base game's original score. You can give it a spin right now on your streaming platform of choice.
Fresh off a BAFTA win earlier this year, Ghost of Yōtei's score blends traditional Japanese instrumentation and modal harmony with Western cinematic flourishes, carving out a distinctive sonic palette. But composer Toma Otowa didn't tackle this fresh batch alone. Shamisen virtuoso Masato Shibata contributes to several tracks alongside renowned tonkori master Oki and his band, Rekpo. Veteran composer Ilan Eshkeri, who scored Ghost of Tsushima (and The Sims 4, mind you), also returns alongside Chad Cannon, who previously helmed the score for Ghost of Yōtei: Legends.
Otowa also recently handled music direction on another major PlayStation release, Marvel Tōkon, which landed on streaming services a few weeks back. And speaking of Marvel—whatever your feelings for Insomniac's Wolverine might be—I still can't get over just how sharp its main theme sounds.
