Remember when I wrote just a few hours ago in my Marvel Tōkon piece that we'd be hearing more about Marvel's stable of superheroes soon? Little did I know I was talking about a matter of hours. Unexpectedly, Sony has dropped the full soundtrack of the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine on all streaming platforms—two weeks ahead of the game's release on September 15! Unlike with the Spider-Man games, Insomniac has teamed up this time with composer David Fleming, who recently made waves with his work on the Apple TV series Widow's Bay and the latest Superman film. You might also recognize his compositions from the second season of The Last of Us adaptation. A true Hollywood heavy-hitter, then, who had already won me over with the first single from this Wolverine OST, which coincidentally opens this (relatively brief) 21-track album.
We are naturally looking at another deeply cinematic, orchestral score, but I feel like Fleming goes the extra mile and infuses it with refreshing sounds and melodies. More so, at least, than John Paesano's work on the Marvel's Spider-Man games.
