After the wonderful departure that was Farthest Frontier (which remains one of my absolute favorite OSTs to this day), Steve Pardo is returning to his roots. To mark the release of Fangs of Asterkarn, an ambitious new campaign for the hack-and-slash game Grim Dawn (its first since 2019!), the American composer is picking back up his war drums for a dark, desperate soundtrack that is, as always, superbly produced.
Alternating between ambient, atmospheric pieces that still have plenty going on in the background, and thunderous, war-like tracks ('Sins of the Past' and its 8-minute runtime are a must-listen!), Steve Pardo never misses a chance to enhance his orchestral compositions with an ever-welcome electric guitar, adding a gritty edge to Grim Dawn’s music.
