It was one of my first musical crushes of the year: the MIO: Memories in Orbit soundtrack will soon be available for vinyl collectors. It was almost a given for the French label Kid Katana Records, which announced today the upcoming release of the OST as a 2LP set. Shipping is set to begin this September, and the first 100 copies will be hand-signed by composer Nicolas Gueguen. The vinyl is priced at €39.
The debut sci-fi Metroidvania from French studio Douze Dixièmes was warmly received by critics. While its mechanics are fairly classic, MIO truly shines through its art direction and music. Nicolas Gueguen went into detail about his creative process in the interview I conducted with him a few months ago.
With over 70 tracks in total, the full score is incredibly rich; however, this vinyl serves as a "best-of" edition. A little less than half of the tracks—33 in total—were handpicked by the composer himself for this release.
Kid Katana Records is on a winning streak in 2026. The Parisian label just announced the Atomic Heart soundtrack and will release the OST for the highly anticipated Denshattack! this June. While a physical edition for the latter isn't on the books yet, it would be surprising if the label didn't capitalize on the star-studded lineup of this indie game’s soundtrack, which was a massive hit during the last Steam Next Fest.
