The Assassin's Creed: Black Flag vinyl will set sail next January

To mark next month’s release of the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake on PC and current-gen consoles, Laced Records is launching pre-orders for a new 5LP box set of the game’s music. A more compact 2LP edition is also on the way—with both scheduled for release in January 2027, priced between $50 and $137 depending on the edition. The collection is also available for pre-order in Europe via Black Screen Records.

Despite the massive visual overhaul Ubisoft has given the 2013 game, the original soundtrack—composed largely by Brian Tyler—does not seem to have been altered here. The 5-vinyl box set also includes a dedicated disc for sea shanties, as well as Olivier Deriviere's tracks for the Freedom Cry DLC.

Composer Brian Tyler is renowned for his blockbuster work across film and video games. Gigues, rough strings, Hollywood percussion, and subtle electronic touches abound throughout the Black Flag score, with Tyler variously pirouetting and strutting through dramatic and action-packed cues — while avoiding piratical clichés.

Joe Henson and Alexis Smith (aka The Flight), plus Christian Henson, contributed tense, lively Caribbean-flavoured tracks for Black Flag’s multiplayer mode. Composer Olivier Deriviere crafted the scintillating soundtrack for the story campaign Freedom Cry in collaboration with Haitian music ensemble La Troupe Makandal.

Perhaps the most indelible musical experience of Black Flag is the inclusion of sea shanties that geed-up players and their crews as they traversed the Caribbean Sea — especially fan-favourite “Leave Her Johnny” and “Randy Dandy Oh”. A huge array of performers leant their vocal talents to the cause, including Sean Dagher, Nils Brown, Michiel Schrey, and many more.

It is worth noting that a 30-track vinyl had already been pressed by Ubisoft back in 2014. However, this current collaboration with Laced Records only strengthens the partnership between the two companies, who have been multiplying joint projects in recent years. In fact, Laced Records distributed the soundtrack vinyls for Assassin's Creed Shadows, the franchise's latest installment.
