Planet Coaster & Planet Zoo composer returns with the score for this very popular Roblox game

Yesterday, I was telling you how much I enjoy the sheer diversity in certain composers' catalogs, using Austin Wintory's latest album as an example. Today, a much more low-profile composer is making a comeback: J.J. Ipsen, known for the superb Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo soundtracks, co-created with the incomparable Jim Guthrie.

As the name subtly suggests, Welcome to Bloxburg is a game—a fairly advanced life simulation, available for free like thousands of others on Roblox. Created 10 years ago by a team from the publisher Coffee Stain in Sweden, the game remains one of the most popular experiences on the platform today, welcoming an average of 9 million players every month.

When it comes to the music, Ipsen sticks to what he does best. It is a cheerful kind of elevator music—said with zero malice—that recalls his previous work in many places, but also, in a way, the music of The Sims 2 and 3. A bright, sunny, and enthusiastic album—J.J. Ipsen's first since 2022!
