Montreal-based studio Panache has dropped the first batch of tracks from 1666 Amsterdam, which debuted in Early Access last summer after years of anticipation. Previously released as a Steam exclusive, the first volume of the soundtrack can now be streamed across major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Qobuz.
Playfully branded a "modern-day witch," Jorane is a seasoned Canadian artist who has released 13 studio albums since the late '90s. True to her signature style, her score for 1666 Amsterdam weaves atmospheric, cello-driven tapestries heightened by haunting choral arrangements. A classical cellist by training, Jorane opened up about her inaugural video game scoring experience in a recent devlog shared by Panache.
1666 Amsterdam lived in creative director Patrice Désilets' mind for over 15 years before finally materializing following a legal settlement with his former employer, Ubisoft, which eventually relinquished the rights. Still, the road to version 1.0 remains bumpy. The Early Access period has faced headwinds, with players reporting bugs, stuttering frame rates, and controversial claims regarding generative AI. In any case, there is no question that Jorane's score is profoundly, masterfully human.
