Follow Alfred down memory lane in Forever Ago and its melancholic soundtrack

Slay the Spire and Kind Words composer Clark Aboud delivers his most moving soundtrack to date.

"With all your Lies / You're still very lovable / I toured the light / So many foreign roads," Bon Iver sang nearly two decades ago on "For Emma, Forever Ago." Today, Third Shift's debut adventure picks up that same heart-on-sleeve melancholy in a poignant narrative road trip. The story follows elderly Alfred as he hits the road in the twilight of his life, revisiting cherished memories while trying to make peace with lingering regrets. Forever Ago is out now on PC and modern consoles, with its original soundtrack also streaming across all major platforms.

I was already sold after hearing the early previews shared by Australian composer Clark Aboud a few weeks back. Now, I can fully immerse myself in this gorgeous 30-track, mostly acoustic collection—anchored by melodies that speak to fleeting time and the words we never found the courage to say.

Clark Aboud is a versatile composer best known to gamers for his work on Slay the Spire and its upcoming sequel. Personally, I hold a special fondness for his contributions to Kind Words and Kind Words 2, where he injected an intimate, evocative flair into lo-fi and city pop textures.

Elsewhere in VGM this week, don't miss the score to Star Wars: Galactic Racer by Grammy-winning composer Gordy Haab. And if you have about thirty hours to spare, Konami just dropped the expansive back catalog of Castlevania soundtracks onto streaming services.
