French studio Emeteria is dropping Fading Echo today, a third-person action game that I could probably introduce as "Splatoon meets Solar Ash." You play as One, a warrior determined to stop a mysterious corruption from destroying her planet by manipulating water and triggering spectacular chain reactions. It’s a vibrant, colorful game that stands in stark contrast to its soundtrack—a heavy, electronic score with deep industrial undertones.
This marks British producer Maxwell Sterling’s first foray into video game music, despite a career primarily rooted in cinema. A double bassist by trade, Sterling knows how to set a mood; he layers textures, blending analog and digital sounds to craft a cohesive, stifling atmosphere that is—inevitably—barely melodic. It is a percussive work that is occasionally insidious in its sonics, surprising the listener with its sheer coldness (especially since the album artwork suggests something far brighter).
The result is a remarkable body of work, which you can also snag on vinyl through the French label G4F. Pre-orders are already open, starting at €39 (approx. $41). Just a heads-up: only 17 of the 23 tracks are slated for this 1LP, which is expected to drop by the end of the year.
