There is no other music genre with a more "on the nose" name. I mean, when you think about it, "ambient" music is just that: sounds that blend into the background; sonic textures designed to convey a certain kind of emotion. It's pretty clear why it is the most popular genre in the horror video games space.
Released last September, Dyer Expedition is an atmospheric horror game inspired by Lovecraft's 1931 novella At the Mountains of Madness. Boasting retro 16-bit graphics, the debut game from Monkeys with Jobs is a delight to watch and listen to. Thanks to Tibor Knopf, also known as Sjellos, the soundtrack consists of 10 long, eerie tracks that will make you feel either stoned or will crank up your anxiety to the max—I can't really say.
