Tracking new VGM releases since 2022

The music from this lesser known Survivors-like has no right to go this hard

I have to admit, I didn't initially think I'd be writing about the music from Nordic Ashes' latest DLC. I hadn’t even heard of the game, even though it's been getting rave reviews from players since its release in 2024 and sports a truly unique art style—somewhere between Don't Starve and Cult of the Lamb. But the soundtrack by Castilian composer Rubén Melià completely blew me away.

As the name suggests, Nordic Ashes draws inspiration from Norse culture and mythology. Naturally, the soundtrack features traditional instruments and sounds, but it also incorporates kulning singing and unexpectedly powerful choirs. In fact, it’s that sheer power that really struck me, especially on tracks like "Krystal Core" or "Fenrir, Son of Loki," which feel like they crawled straight out of a Final Fantasy OST. It's seriously impressive.
