Opening an unexpected letter or parcel can just as easily spark excitement as it can fill you with dread. Is it a gift? Another bill? A love letter? Oh, right, a tax reassessment notice. Just like in real life, you never quite know what to expect in *The Mailroom*. However, something tells me it usually goes far beyond your weekly junk mail. Out today on PC, *The Mailroom* is billed as a cozy horror workplace simulator, complete with an ace up its sleeve: a brand-new soundtrack by Cameron Paxton. As a huge fan of Paxton's work on *Dome Keeper* and its various DLCs, I hit play just as eagerly as I sometimes tear into an eagerly awaited envelope. While the American composer's signature touch shines through in the eerie synth pads and lingering melodies, *The Mailroom* remains a spooky game at heart. Accordingly, the score leans into ominous undertones and coarse, gritty textures. It might not quite be a full-blown Jason Graves joint, but definitely expect something far less laid-back than Paxton's past output.
