September 2026 was packed with heavy-hitting game releases, and that surge was clearly mirrored across game music streaming platforms. Still, major publishers frequently opted to hold back the official soundtrack drops for their latest blockbusters. As of this writing, the scores for *The Blood of Dawnwalker*, *Silent Hill: Townfall*, and *CONTROL Resonant* remain unavailable on DSPs—though studios claim they are arriving soon.

Even so, the past few weeks hardly needed AAA support to flood listeners with new music. In fact, we just closed the busiest September I have ever tracked for NOWPLAYING. With 99 new OSTs hitting digital storefronts and streaming services, September reinforced what is shaping up to be an all-time record year for video game music.

As usual, orchestral scores led the charge, claiming 28 new releases. Standouts include [*1666 Amsterdam*](https://nowplaying.cool/helmed-by-jorane-the-soundtrack-to-1666-amsterdam-makes-its-streaming-debut/) with its haunting, esoteric palette, [*Ace Combat: The Belkan War (Remastered)*](https://nowplaying.cool/ace-combat-zero-the-belkan-war-original-soundtrack-remastered-2026-2/) delivering unadulterated high-octane epicness, and fresh, exciting material from [*The Witcher 3*'s upcoming DLC, *Songs of the Past*](https://nowplaying.cool/the-witcher-3-songs-of-the-past-gamescom-ep/).

September also marked a minor milestone: *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth* is no longer the longest soundtrack of the year. The surprise usurper is [*Minecraft Dungeons II*, claiming the crown with a 210-track marathon](https://nowplaying.cool/minecraft-dungeons-ii-has-the-longest-soundtrack-of-2026/) clocking in at roughly 11 hours. Speaking of records, *Genshin Impact* reached another benchmark of its own, with its latest album push driving its total catalog [past the 2,000-track mark](https://nowplaying.cool/genshin-impact-might-have-the-longest-soundtrack-in-history/).

Last month, Japan edged out the US in total volume, shipping no fewer than 19 releases. The highlight of the bunch was easily [the stellar *Tokyo Xtreme Racer*](https://nowplaying.cool/put-the-pedal-to-the-metal-the-tokyo-xtreme-racer-soundtrack-is-out-now-on-all-streaming-platforms/) score—a propulsive, razor-sharp soundtrack engineered for tearing through the Shuto Expressway.

On a more sobering note, fully AI-generated OST releases held steady across DSPs. I tracked 8 AI titles in September, accounting for roughly 8% of all releases—[identical to August](https://nowplaying.cool/august-2026-vgm-roundup/). While it is hardly surprising that an increasing number of studios leverage AI tools for in-game audio, going through the trouble of publishing them as standalone albums on commercial platforms remains baffling. That is especially true now that Deezer, Tidal, and recently Qobuz have introduced automated AI-content labeling tags across their catalogs.
