Let’s not sugarcoat it: Team Xbox isn’t in a great spot right now. Clinging to a critical hit at least helps soften the blow of cascading layoffs that have plagued the brand since the start of the year. Today, The Coalition rolls out *Gears of War: E-Day*—a prequel to the groundbreaking 2006 original by Epic Games—fresh off warm critical praise when the review embargo lifted last week (sitting at a solid 88 on OpenCritic). Just hours away from launch on Xbox consoles and PC, you can stream the full original score right now on your music platform of choice.

Microsoft previously teased the new soundtrack several weeks ago with a debut single crafted by composer Adam Lastiwka, who previously collaborated with the studio on the *Gears 5* DLC called *Hivebusters*. He follows in the footsteps of high-profile composers Ramin Djawadi (*Game of Thrones*), Steve Jablonsky (*The Sims 3*), and Kevin Riepl (*Ascend: Hand of Kul*) to take the musical reins of the venerable third-person shooter franchise. Lastiwka's previous credits notably include the Netflix sci-fi series *Travelers* and the audiobook edition of Cormac McCarthy's *Blood Meridian*.

Over the past few months, Microsoft has also pushed several notable video game scores to streaming platforms, including [*Grounded 2*](https://nowplaying.cool/legrounded-2-official-game-soundtrack/), helmed by the very same audio team that delivered the ferocious soundtrack for [*DOOM: The Dark Ages - Revelations*](https://nowplaying.cool/as-id-software-is-being-slain-the-new-doom-soundtrack-sounds-as-bittersweet-as-it-is-empowering/) just weeks prior.
