Tracking new VGM releases since 2022

What is NOWPLAYING anyway?

NOWPLAYING Video game music originally started as a small project back when I was a video game journalist over at JVFR. Every month, my pal aGa and I would pick a few tracks from the latest soundtracks to feature in an article. After the site closed down, I carried on with the project on my own—first as a newsletter, then a monthly mixtape, and finally a proper podcast (in French).

NOWPLAYING was born out of a sense of frustration. I can't play all the games that appeal to me, but I can certainly listen to their soundtracks to get at least a glimpse of what they're about. Since the end of 2022, I have tracked new VGM releases daily and have tried to paint the most accurate picture of the industry that I possibly can with the resources available to me.

The project now takes many different shapes and forms. First, there's the Patreon page, where my supporters get exclusive access to VGM playlists, music recommendations, and even a comprehensive spreadsheet where I log every single video game music album released on streaming services.

As I mentioned before, there's also the NOWPLAYING Video game music podcast, which I host in French; it allows me to highlight some of my favorite tracks from the past few weeks.

In August 2025, I also launched nwpl.ing, a shortlink manager specially designed to create links that lead to your favorite streaming platforms. You can browse all the links I've created since then right here.

Three years of following video game music news has resulted in a lot of data. I found a way to showcase it on a beautiful (I think!) dashboard that allows you to compare the number of releases over the years and gain insights into things like composers' origins, prevalent music styles, and more.

Finally, I've decided to scale up and launch a proper website dedicated to tracking video game music releases. Here, I'll post new VGM, composer interviews, and vinyl announcements. If my work is valuable to you, please consider making a donation via Ko-Fi or subscribing to my Patreon page. Thank you very much!
